Composition Series

The Composition Series is The Seven Elements of Visual Indulgence put into artistic practice.

  1. Play - Each composition starts as a simple, stream-of-consciousness digital drawing.
  2. Source - The drawing continues until forms emerge that spark ideas.
  3. Experiment - The drawing is manipulated, distorted, and transformed into dozens of different variants.
  4. Synthesis - Variants are combined and blended into new compositions.
  5. Color - Colors are shifted, saturated, muted, introduced, and removed.
  6. Otherworld - I introduce unexpected elements that pull compositions away from reality.
  7. Allure - I ask myself: do I like it, or do I love it? The work is not complete until I love it.

In the Composition Series, a single drawing generates multiple final works. This is reflected in the numbering system. For example, Compositions V.I and V.II both originate from Drawing 5 (V), with the decimal indicating the final composition number. Decimals of '.N' (from the medieval Latin nulla, meaning "nothing" or zero) indicate that the composition remains largely unchanged from the original source drawing.
